Experimental Investigation on the Mechanical Properties of a Sandwich Structure Made of Flax/Glass Hybrid Composite Facesheet and Honeycomb Core

This research is aimed at developing the sandwich structure with a hybrid composite facesheet and investigate its mechanical properties (tensile, edgewise compression, flexural). The combination of renewable synthetic materials appears to reduce weight, cost, environmental impact compared pure materials. facesheets were fabricated different ratios stacking sequence flax glass fibers. nonhybrid structures for comparison. overall performance was improved by increasing fiber ratio in composites. experimental tensile compression strength ultimate flexural facing stress composites achieved higher when results normalized same volume fraction composite. showed up 68% 75%, respectively, using outer layer similar stiffness only 6% thickness than structure.
